The Similkameen's original winery, Crowsnest Vineyards is a second generation Heincke family-run estate.
It's been a decade or longer since I've tried their wines and I have to say I was delighted to receive a box of samples to see what's happening with the wine program.
This Merlot comes from 32 year old vines and was aged 18 months in French oak.
Spiced blackberries and plums, white pepper and espresso, cocoa and dark earth aromas lead to a supple palate with a fresh entry. The palate echos the nose, it's slick and balanced with sweet tannins and a finish trailing bacon fat and cocoa.
